Your living room should be a comfortable place to relax, but it should also look good to the eye. If this isn’t how you feel walking into your living room, it might be because you’re making one of these top three living room styling mistakes.
Curtains Too Low
Most people hang curtains starting from the top of the window. Although this looks fine in many rooms, it can be improved upon. Try hanging your curtains starting at three to eight inches above the top of the window. The key is to make sure your curtains reach the floor without pooling. This helps make your room feel much larger because it draws your eye upward.
Rug Too Small
An area rug is a great addition to a living room because it helps ground the space. Make sure that your rug is large enough to fit underneath all of your furniture and have two to three inches behind all pieces. For a more casual environment, still choose a rug that is large enough to fit halfway under all pieces or at least have two feet of each piece on the rug.
Furniture Too Big
Although being comfortable is a top priority, cramming too much furniture into one room can make it feel cramped. If you are choosing to purchase an entire living room set, consider having just one or two pieces in the living room and placing the other pieces throughout your home for a cohesive interior design.
